This paper reports the results of our research on the lives of new students at Ochanomizu\
University and their guardians in 2016, focusing on their career prospects and student\
support services. Three hundred and fifty-two new students and three hundred and forty-three\
guardians completed questionnaire surveys about student life, career prospects, dormitories,\
and their families. The main findings are as follows: 1. The percentage of students with anxiety\
about classwork and results in student life is 71.9%. 2. Although the percentage of guardians\
who know dormitories of Ochanomizu University has decreased in the last five years, the\
percentage of students who want to live in dormitory has increased in the past year. 3. The\
percentage of students who wish to join a graduate course is 46.0%. 4. In total, 49.2% of the\
students answered that their fathers are involved in their future and seeking employment, and\
63.1% of the students answered that their mothers are also invo lved.
