This paper presents the results of the research on the lives of new students of 2017 at
Ochanomizu University and their guardians, focusing on their career prospects and student
support services. A total of 406 new students and 409 guardians completed questionnaires
about student life, career prospects, dormitories, and their families. The main findings are

highest at 66.3%, whereas the percentage of students with anxiety about seeking employment
has declined over the last seven years. (2) The percentage of students who wish to work in
private enterprises is 57.7% and the percentage has increased gradually. (3) More than half
the students answered that their fathers or mothers are involved in planning their future and
finding employment opportunities for them. (4) The percentage of students and their guardians
who know about scholarship systems and dormitories is decreasing gradually. The percentage
is particularly low in the Faculty of Science.
