To consider it, I carry out interviews with Li Yuchun\u0027s fans. Li is a Chinese pop singer, who achieved instant fame when she won the nation-wide singing contest “Super Girl” in 2005. Her fans have a nickname- “Yumi” (a word incorporating part of Li\u0027s name that in turn forms the word for “corn” in Chinese).According to the existing studies, female audience\u0027s culture consumption contains resistance to reality, yet it is always tinged with scapism, a negative character. In contrast, through the consideration of this paper, it turns out that Yumi appeal to the public positively and demand social changes. They are attracted by Li through “Super Girl” and affirm her as a new female image which is independent and not restricted to conventional gender bias. Moreover, by positive support activities, they foster the reception of the new female image in Chinese society.
