By using the internationally comparable ISEI scores, it shows that only in Japan are girls expecting on average to have occupations with significantly lower socio-economic status than boys.\nThe paper uses the ratio of the girl’s ISEI score against the average of boys from the same country as the dependent variable. By assuming that the effects of the expectation to go to university, math and reading PISA scores, and ISEI scores of the parents were the same for all girls, we carried out multiple regression using OLS to examine country differences. Results showed that Japan’s country dummy coefficient was the least of the 36 countries.\nTo determine why the ratio of an average girl’s ISEI against the boys of the same country was lowest in Japan, we then regressed the country dummy coefficients with gender equality landscape variables of each country. They consisted of the wage gap, share of female managers, men’s household work, and views on being a housewife. The results showed that the effects of all the variables individually were significant, and when combined, particularly the wage gap had a strong effect. From this, it can be assumed that the low occupational expectations of Japanese girls relative to boys is related to the conservative gender equality landscape of the country. On the other hand, the math competency of Japanese girls is one of the highest in the world. Therefore, Japan could do more to exploit is human capital like other countries that are better harnessing the capabilities of women.","subitem_description_language":"en","subitem_description_type":"Abstract"}]},"item_11_publisher_36":{"attribute_name":"出版者","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_publisher":"お茶の水女子大学生活社会科学研究会","subitem_publisher_language":"ja"}]},"item_1623395637221":{"attribute_name":"出版タイプ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_version_resource":"http://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a85","subitem_version_type":"VoR"}]},"item_access_right":{"attribute_name":"アクセス権","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_access_right":"open access","subitem_access_right_uri":"http://purl.org/coar/access_right/c_abf2"}]},"item_creator":{"attribute_name":"著者","attribute_type":"creator","attribute_value_mlt":[{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"MIYAMOTO, Kaori","creatorNameLang":"en"}]}]},"item_files":{"attribute_name":"ファイル情報","attribute_type":"file","attribute_value_mlt":[{"accessrole":"open_access","date":[{"dateType":"Available","dateValue":"2021-12-07"}],"filename":"01_p1-22.pdf","format":"application/pdf","license_note":"※本文は閲覧のみ可能です。印刷はできません。","licensetype":"license_note","mimetype":"application/pdf","url":{"url":"https://teapot.lib.ocha.ac.jp/record/2000319/files/01_p1-22.pdf"},"version_id":"45576ecd-23d3-4f0b-9d8e-6408f4d49602"}]},"item_language":{"attribute_name":"言語","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_language":"eng"}]},"item_resource_type":{"attribute_name":"資源タイプ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"resourcetype":"departmental bulletin paper","resourceuri":"http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501"}]},"item_title":"[論文]“Girls, Be Ambitious!”: Why Japanese Girls Have Lower Occupational Expectations Than Boys","item_titles":{"attribute_name":"タイトル","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_title":"[論文]“Girls, Be Ambitious!”: Why Japanese Girls Have Lower Occupational Expectations Than Boys","subitem_title_language":"en"}]},"item_type_id":"11","owner":"1","path":["1638491485548"],"pubdate":{"attribute_name":"PubDate","attribute_value":"2021-12-07"},"publish_date":"2021-12-07","publish_status":"0","recid":"2000319","relation_version_is_last":true,"title":["[論文]“Girls, Be Ambitious!”: Why Japanese Girls Have Lower Occupational Expectations Than Boys"],"weko_creator_id":"1","weko_shared_id":-1},"updated":"2022-12-12T06:15:04.365186+00:00"}
