 note = {application/pdf, 紀要論文, 本論は、ウィリアム・シェイクスピアの『十二夜』（1599-1602）における女性同性愛の解釈の可能性を、初期近代のイングランド社会における女性同性愛の存在可能性と併せて考察し、作品内の女性同性愛の非／表象を歴史化することを試みる。まず、歴史的証拠のないイングランドの女性同性愛が、いかにして当時の社会の中で存在し得たかをヴァレリー・トラウブの議論に依拠して考察する。社会の脅威とみなされない身体は「重要でないもの」として不可視化されるが、脅威とみなされなくなることにより、逆に、存在可能となる。この論理展開を、一見、同性愛的に見えながらも、否定されているこの劇の女同士の同性愛的欲望の解釈に用い、「重要でない身体」として一旦は欲望を否定されたこの女達に、否定されてこそ得られる自由を、劇が用意しているさまを分析する。不可視化されてきた女性同性愛が、劇という媒体によって、可視化される可能性を提示する。, This article attempts to consider (non-)representation of female same-sex love in William Shakespeare's Twelfth Night in the cultural and political context of early modern England. The first question here is whether female homoeroticism existed in early modern English society. Valerie Traub shows how female same-sex desire and sexual activity did exist in spite of the lack of their historical documents in early modern England. According to her, female homoerotic desire was regarded as“ insignificance” there because of its non-threatening nature to society. Women whose bodies don't matter can paradoxically get some liberty: their desire can be homoerotic without being known to any men. This logic leads us to a reinterpretation of Twelfth Night and especially to the relationship between Olivia and Viola, whose desires refuse to be interpreted as homoerotic although they look so at first sight. This refusal is nevertheless necessary for these female characters  to keep homoerotic desires because their desires have no liberty until they become the bodies that don't matter. Depriving them of their threatening nature\
to society, the play suggests possibilities of existence, fulfillment, and continuance of their same-sex love. Above all, in a way particular to dramatic art, Twelfth Night can re-present one possible moment of fulfillment of female homoerotic desires, which have not been made visible in our historical researches.},
