Through a mystical process, she is transformed into a ‘Saiin’, a shaman priestess, who holds a powerful magnetic attraction for young men, later turning into a senile old woman with grizzled hair. I will locate these incoherent, fluid body images in a 1970’s historical context, concentrating on the female “ageing body” which is both alienated from the fashion and medicalized in geronto-psychiatry.
