To date, little research has been conducted\\\nconcerning the relationship between motivation and learning. This study addresses that gap by exploring the\\\nrelationship between one type of motivation, possible selves, and language learning strategies. A questionnaire\\\nwas distributed to 126 female university students, and nine of whom were subsequently interviewed\\\nin Japanese to examine their goal setting and their actual learning processes. The findings confirmed\\\nthe participants’ level of possible selves and their use of language learning strategies were interrelated.\\\nParticipants with high level of possible selves tended to use language learning strategies more frequently\\\nand have clearer goals than those who did not. Participants with low level of possible selves did not envision\\\nusing English at all in the future.
