The first edition of\ this textbook was published in 1979. It was revised ten times during 30 years. Ten times of revisions reflected\ the early childhood education reform in US. The most outstanding change can be seen in the percentage of\ curriculum in this book. War of Poverty was a big issue in US after the 60’s. The mission of education was to\ improve the academic achievement of children coming from poor families. The same thing could be said of the\ early childhood education. The textbook explained curriculum in detail until the 90’s. But this changed after\ 2000. The main theme of this textbook has shifted from the curriculum to relationships, diversity, and so on.\ The social context of this change was the increasing amount of conflict in the world.
