When the method was applied to β-methyl-naphthoquinone and β-methyl-naphthazarin, 2-methyl-3-hydroxy-naphthoquinone, namely phthiocol (the pigment of human tubercle bacillus) and 2-methyl-3-hydroxy-naphthazarin, namely hydroxydroserone (the pigment of Drosera whittakeri) were synthesized respectively.
