The research was conducted in Puurtilanniemi area, Varkaus. The process of its plan and building, the residents' utilization of the environment and their view of the living environment were investigated through interviews and a questionnaire survey. In conclusion, three perceptions of natural environment were found. The first one is the appreciation of beauty of nature that they have passively. The second one is the evaluation of nature that they utilize in daily life.The third one is the relief of keeping their territory from others.
