Compared with the result of the national public opinion poll, occasional attendants to their forest management works did not possess specified knowledge on the nature or the purpose of the movement, but stronger affection for recreation in the mountainous forests(Figures 1-3). In the conservation movement of Mt.Fuji, Japan's highest volcano assumed as the imperial symbol by the Meiji Government, the Club's promoters newly symbolized Fuji as the environmental deterioration caused by industry and tourism(Table 4), Whereas the Mainichi Shinbun tried to arouse patriotism as well(Table 5).
