Instruction in writing is\\\nprimarily taught as a course during the first year of higher education. However, course instructors are not\\\nalways writing specialists, so problems have arisen in areas ranging from course design to course instruction.\\\nIn order to determine what is occurring, the current study conducted a review of articles on instruction in\\\nwriting that were published in 3 academic journals from 2006 to 2015. This study surveyed the instructional\\\ntechniques used thus far and advances in instructional practices. This study also describes issues evident in the\\\nanalyzed articles and forms of instruction to teach different genres of writing. Differences in course placement\\\nin the program curriculum, and the course goals and the instructor’s views on education lead to variations in\\\ncourse design and instruction (the intended genre of writing, whether learning is collaborative or not,\\\nintegration of writing with other skills, etc.). Instructional approaches have had some level of success, as\\\nindicated by the current analysis.
