A considerable number of studies have been conducted on lectures at universities, yet there are very few studies on strategies to improve lecture comprehension in Japanese as a second language. This study’s goal is to produce basic information about lecture comprehension in Japanese at universities that can be applied to teaching. In order to do this, we did a longitudinal survey on lecture comprehension using interviews. The results shows that foreign students try various strategies for comprehending lecture. These strategies eventually become analytical and these include meta cognitive strategies.
