Sound symbolism is regarded as the opposite concept of arbitrariness and some researchers said that sound worked not only as a physical sound but also had some kind of particular meaning in itself and it evoked images related to the way they sound (Uemura 1964, Uemura 1965, Tamori & Schourup 1999, Makino 1999). In this paper, we used questionnaires then firstly the collected data was analyzed by descriptive statistical analysis and chi-square test as well. The presented concepts are "big," "small," "bright," "dark," "wide" and "narrow." The result was analyzed from the phonetic point of view. As a result, it was found that "big," "bright" and "wide" have something to do with /a/, "small" and "narrow" have something to do with /i/ and "dark" is related to /o/.}, pages = {116--128}, title = {日本語の母音における音象徴の研究(村松賢一先生退官記念号)}, volume = {27}, year = {2004} }
