researched historical background, and it has enough ground to be more minutely analyzed in the\
literary point of view.\
The aim of my paper is to demonstrate that the patriarchy centering around the Emperor is tacitly\
criticized by a little house where biological reproduction is carefully avoided and sisterhood is\
idealized, while to vigorously reproduce children is recommended by the Japanese government in\
time of war.\
Instead of biological reproduction, little, personal stories are told, interconnected in many stories of\
those who have certain relations with “the little house”.\
Generally speaking, the “ authentic ” history, the Big Story, given by authority suppresses those\
little, personal stories told by private individual people, and they are treated as not existing. But\
Nakajima makes the little stories symbolized by “the little house” stand against Japanese government\
during the World War II.\
Moreover, the structure of this novel is noteworthy in that the memory of Taki is handed down to\
Takeshi, her nephew's son, as “post-memory” and in the end he himself makes his own story based\
upon his post-memory entrusted by his grand aunt.},
