 note = {application/pdf, 紀要論文, Edmund Gurney (1847-1888) is an English writer in the second half of the nineteenth century whose interests embraced a wide range of subjects including literature, philosophy, music, and psychology. He was especially concerned with music, and published an extensive essay on musical aesthetics, e Power of Sound (1880), in which Gurney speculates about various problems related to music. The discussions on musical expression and musical impression are one of the main themes of this book. The purpose of this paper is to clarify his idea about these concepts. By examining Gurney’s thoughts about these concepts, his idea about musical expression in general and its position in his musical thinking are revealed.},
