And the image of water seems to be very useful to accomplish it. Indeed, in the works of Shina, water appears repeatedly in many different forms such as rain, moisture, sewage, and river, etc. The water erodes its space and even (the characters') bodies. The characters are starved, get stranded, and even get led to death by that water. It stagnates around the characters or sticks to their bodies. However it doesn't seem to be only external being, sometimes it is vomited, drained from a body. In other words, the water has both sides of an external and internal being simultaneously. Where would the water lead us? It does not flow by such strong force, but surely has a strong presence. Finally, we come to see the standing water in a cinerary urn of a graveyard. In the possibility of life mirrored in that water, paradoxically, we can also understand the water that presents nihilism is a necessary evil to our life.}, pages = {3.1--3.9}, title = {椎名麟三文学におけるニヒリズム : <水>を手がかりにして}, volume = {10}, year = {2008} }
