reframing to a play frame occurs in complaint discourse of a Japanese-based, Thai-Japanese contact 
situation. The speech acts found in the conversation data comprise both linguistic and non-linguistic 
acts, including laughter, denial, co-performance, clarification question and ambiguous response. 
Except laughter, the speech acts of Japanese native speakers differ depending on whether reframing 
is constructed successfully. We can see laughter, denial and co-performance when the Japanese 
interlocutor is able to tune-in to the speaker and help construct a play frame. Clarification question, and 
ambiguous response are noticed when the Japanese interlocutor fails to share a play frame with the 
Thai speaker. Laughter is a representative response that Japanese native speakers use to help construct 
reframing, but it may also be interpreted as a sign of non-participation or reservation within the play 
frame, depending on the context.},
