The \nstudy of Raff has been mainly of his symphonies. The question then arises about his work on other \ngenre, namely opera. The purpose of this paper is to reveal details leading to the completion of the \nopera and its first performance. \nThe following results were obtained. First, as for the postponement of the opera, there was the effect \nof the Revolutions of 1848, and the popularity of the theme, “Alfred” markedly waned as well. Secondly, \nthe revision of the opera by Raff has close ties with three important styles, namely Schumann, Meyerbeer \nand Wagner. Thirdly, Raff owes his premiere (1851) to Liszt in many ways, and moreover, I could say that \none of the other reason why the premiere was successfully carried out is because there was understanding \nfor such new operas in Weimar.
