Kōen \ndowa is characterised by large audiences and performances using gestures. Many performers of kōen \ndowa followed the approach to national policy during the war in the Showa period (especially 1941-1945). \nThe purposes of this paper are: (1)to analyse how the storytelling department of Nippon Shokokumin \nBunka Kyokai (The National Association for Young Childrens’ Culture) came to follow the national \npolicy line during the war in the Showa period, and (2)to observe the type of educational policies \ncontained in a storytelling script of aerial defence education written by KANAZAWA Kaichi (1908-\n1986).
