For this purpose, the questionnaires are constructed. They are composed of two F scales, 9ne of which is for children and another is the modified form of the former scale for adults, and the types of home disciphne scale which measures the degree of mother's authoritarianism in home discipline, newly ,devised for this study. The construction of the F ,scale is fundamentally based on California F scale but is supplemented by some items taking Japanese specific curture pattern into consideration. As for the information of mothers' attitudes toward home discipline, the data are gotten from mothers as well as from their children by different scales. Ss are 550 pairs of mother and her child and both their F and disciplinary scores are measured. These children range from 10 to 15 years* of age. The results are as followings : (1) There are significant positive correlations between children's F scores and their mothers' F ,or disciplinary attitudes. It is probable that the mothers' social attitudes are transmitted to their .children directly or indirectly through their methods of home discipline. (2) The pattens of how the attitudes are tran-;smitted from mothers to their children diverges l 49 according to the age and sex of children. Generally, there are higher positive correlations between girls' scores and their mothers' than between boys' and their mother's at age level. (3) According to the patterns of intercorrelations between children's F scores or attitudes tow-ards their mother's disciplinary methods, and mo-thers' F or disciplinary attitudes, it is considered that, in girls' case, at about 10-12 years old, they learn their mothers' authoritarianism mainly through their mothers' disciplinary method. At about 12-13 years old, they begin to adopt directly their mothers' attitudes as their socializing models,but they still continue to learn mothers' attitudes indirectly through the disciplines as before. At about 15 years old, they get out of theinfluences of mothers' disciplinary attitudes and build up their own social attitudes in the true sense of words, directly taking mothers' attitudes as their models. (4) In the case of boys, at about 11-12 years old, earlier than in the girls' case, they build up their own social attitudes.
