The transition temperatures, the latent heats and the characterizations of the mesophases were achieved by polarizing microscope, DSC, and small angle X-ray diffraction measurements. These homologous series of 1 show nematic, smectic A and/or highly ordered smectic phases. The layer spacings of the smectic A phases indicate that the each layer spacing of the homologs is about 2 Å longer than the molecular length.
