内容記述 | This study examines how teachers accept and support preschool-aged children’s mealtime choices regarding what and how much they eat. Children aged between three and five years were observed in a classroom at an Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) center during lunchtime. Four cases, where the children wanted another helping of food, were analyzed and revealed the following: First, teachers reacted favorably to the children’s wishes with respect to their development in the past. Second, the teachers considered the children’s future development, due to which they did not always accept the children’s wishes. The teachers also explained and encouraged good behavior so that everyone could enjoy a fulfilling mealtime. Third, teachers respond actively and flexibly to the children’s feelings and actions based on circumstantial contexts at the time of the meal. | |||||||||
