The questionnaire was completed by 134 DDP students.\nA factor analysis was conducted. Five factors emerged for their difficulties: \u201cdissatisfaction of their major subjects\u201d, \u201cdifficulties in their future course\u201d, \u201cdissatisfaction of their friendship\u201d, \u201cdissatisfaction of monotonous life\u201d, and \u201cdifficulties to communicate in Japanese.\u201d In addition, five factors were found as their motivations: \u201cchallenging their potential\u201d, \u201ctaking a passive selection\u201d, \u201craising their academic background\u201d, \u201cescaping from their previous life\u201d, and \u201cunderstanding Japanese culture.\u201d Furthermore, results of multiple regression analysis with difficulties as dependent variables and motivations as independent variables revealed that DDP students who apply DDP to take a passive selection and escape from their previous life experience more difficulties during their life abroad.\nResults suggested that DDP students\u2019 motivations were related to their difficulties in life abroad.
