| 内容記述 | A strong legal marriage norm exists in Japanese society. Recently, some individuals have preferred nonlegal marriage partnerships or have placed less emphasis on legal marriage despite no significant changes in contemporary marriage laws in Japan. Thus, it is important to understand the determinants of people’s views surrounding legal marital norms. This study examines the factors that strengthen or weaken people’s normative consciousness of legal marriage within the Japanese cultural and social context. Five factors were used in the analysis: demographic factors, partnership status, work/job status, residential status, and subjective human relationship evaluations （e.g., family relationship satisfaction）. A hierarchical multiple regression analysis revealed three key findings: （1） unregistered marital partners demonstrated a stronger consciousness of legal marriage norms than single people; （2） unmarried cohabitants had a stronger awareness of legal marriage norms than non-cohabitants; and （3） subjective relationship evaluation factors were significantly related to people’s awareness of legal marital norms. | |||||||||
