| 内容記述 | This study examines Kurahashi Sozo’s ideas about individuality in kindergarten education during the Meiji to Showa periods, a time when Western ideas began influencing Japanese education. By comparing Kurahashi’s argument with contemporary differential psychology, 4 distinct aspects of his approach emerged: （1） Individuality as Existence: Unlike the prevailing view that defined individuality through comparison with universal standards, Kurahashi emphasized recognizing each child’s existence as individuality within kindergarten education. （2） Interaction-Based Understanding: While psychology at the time focused on studying individuals isolated from their relationships, Kurahashi believed understanding a child required engaging with their feelings during real interactions. （3） Real-Life Focus: Contrary to the era’s emphasis on defining individuality through psychological testing, Kurahashi argued for starting with each child’s actual life experiences in education. （4） Personal Happiness: Whereas contemporary psychology aimed to develop socially competent individuals based on uniform standards, Kurahashi’s goal was for each child to achieve personal happiness. These points highlight Kurahashi’s unique approach, which differed from the standard psychological practices of his time by focusing on the child’s individual experience and well-being rather than standardized measures. | |||||||||
