| 内容記述 | What kind of earning structure did families have in Osaka during the 1920s and 1930s? How did they make a living? In this paper the characteristics of family earning structures are explored focusing on working women and their families. It is investigated whether modern gender roles expressed in the phrase "man as breadwinner, womon as homemaker" was actually maintained. For family formation during the 1920s and 1930s, it was uncommon for the husband to fully support a household economy only on his wage, thus it was also supported by the homemaker's side job, children's labor, and/or other income not obtained through a wage. The results were obtained by the investigation of the Municipal Bureau of Labor Research of Osaka and the Family Income Statistics and Expenditure Survey. I take a critical perspective toward the statement that modern gender roles were established during the 1920s and 1930s in Japan. | |||||
