Clarke, a physician and professor at Harvard University. In the 1870s, this book had a profound effect on the knowledge of “women,” just as women\u0027s higher education was gathering momentum. In this work, Clarke emphasized the development of a woman\u0027s reproductive system, as he thought that it developed during puberty by menstruation. According to him, it needed rapid expenditure of “force,” which is supposed to be a cause of any action of the body. He insisted that girls should rest from brain works during menstruation because “force” in the body has its limits and for proper development, it should flow to the reproductive system and not to the brain. This extends the Law of Conservation of Force?which was originally intended for physics but became popular in other disciplines?to the human body. Consequently, he suggested that in “women” the development of the reproductive system and the brain work were a trad\\\ne-off.
