内容記述 | It has been said that Japanese companies are a hard place for women to work as full-time employees. In recent years, the number of foreign female workers is increasing in Japanese corporations. This paper focuses on the problems that these foreign female workers face, and analyzes their adaptation to their situations and the process of their career development. The author conducted a survey of nine Asian female workers who joined the Career Development Program for Foreign Students from Asia, an initiative of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry having the aim of encouraging overseas students to work in Japan after graduating from Japanese universities. The workers whom the author interviewed are in their second and fourth years at their companies. The author analyzed their comments using the M-GTA method and produced a model for the process of the workers’ development and the difficulties they have faced. It was found that the foreign female workers are treated similarly to Japanese workers and are expected to work similarly to the full-time Japanese women. But at the same time, it was found that they are expected to follow the norms of marriage and childbirth of their homeland, entailing frequent contact with their family using smartphones. | |||||
