| 内容記述 | The purpose of this paper is to investigate how foreign female graduate students begin, lead, and leave behind their lives in Japan. Five students who majored in Japanese as a Second Language and other related academic fields were interviewed and the interview transcripts subsequently analyzed using the Modified Grounded Theory Approach (M-GTA). The analysis results indicated that these students began their lives in Japan with support from their homeland?in the form of help from family members and teachers?and by their own desire for learning.During their time in Japan, they were able to improve both their daily lives and academic skills. The results also revealed that their lives were conducted in the additive mode because they improved over time. However, their capabilities to achieve economic independence and conduct life-stage planning were less stable. They were therefore unable to determine long-term goals and often stayed only temporarily in Japan. | |||||
