| 内容記述 | This paper examines one aspect of the policies on music during the early French Fourth Republic (1946-54), focusing on art music programs by Radiodiffusion Française, the national radio organization. I analyze the music programs performed by the Orchestre national de France (ON) affiliated with Radiodiffusion Française. The programs were aired once a week on the National Channel that aimed at protecting French heritage. The characteristics of and changes in the repertoire, as well as traces of the “memory” of the Occupation, are investigated. In an attempt to overcome the supremacy of nineteenth-century German romanticism and to support the works of living composers, Henry Barraud, the music director of the Radiodiffusion Française, tried to expand its repertoire. His efforts were evident in the early ON repertoire, just after the Liberation, particularly until the demission of Rosenthal (conductor of the ON) in 1947. The ON repertoire, however, later reverted to the canonical classics. Most “war-related works”, aired intensively by 1947, have never been discussed among the critics; Direct war-related expressions were not welcomed. On the other hand, Milhaud’s latest works were appreciated, being regarded as symbolic of the Liberation in spite of their neutrality. | |||||
