| 内容記述 | This paper discusses Wangguowei’s literary theory in comparison to that of Goethe’s, as the similarities and differences of these two authors have not been yet discussed. Wangguowei claimed that literature that is written by a great poet should express emotions common to all humanity and Goethe emphasized the importance of “Worldliterature.” In order to clarify the similarities and differences of these two authors, I compare them from three perspectives: (1) how they view the world; (2) how they view synchronicity and diachronicity of literature; and (3) what their attitudes are towards translation. I argue that (1) their world views are different and (2) that Wangguowei placed importance on diachronicity and that Goethe placed importance on synchronicity and (3) that translation for Wangguowei was a means of absorbing foreign culture whereas for Goethe it was a vehicle of dialogue among writers of the world. In conclusion I considered the sources of their similarities to argue that the rising tide of colonization and globalization that the two shared is the source of their similarities. I also argued that their\ differences comes from the extent of their experiences with foreign cultures. |
