| 内容記述 | This review paper examined research on issues related to “holding” of infant by mother. Research on this topic was divided into the three periods. Studies conducted between 1960's and 1970's, focused on preference of lateral position of holding (right or left hand holding the head of a baby) by mother and possible contributing factors for this preference. These studies did not take into consideration child’ s developmental needs. Furthermore, child was assumed to be a passive recipient of mother’s holding. The role of attachment relationship between mother and child were incorporated into later studies in nursing. However, these are mainly unsystematic case studies whose findings need to be verified using more systematic and objective methodologies and research designs. It is suggested that future studies also need to pay attention to emotional effects of holding. | |||||
