| 内容記述 | In this paper, I am arguing the meaning of moral activities by studying Ogyu Sorai’s work. Ogyu Sorai is a Confucian scholar in the Edo period.Previously it has been said that Sorai stressed the importance of political institution rather than moral activities against traditional Confucian view. But he didn’t disregard moral issues entirely. In fact, he regarded four moral duties, filial piety（孝）, brotherly respect（弟）, loyalty（忠）and trust（信）, as indispensable requirement for realization of harmonious society. I am making this point clear byexamining the Mean(中). Because, for Sorai, the Mean was the most fundamental principle of life for both individuals and societies, and filial piety, brotherly respect, loyalty and trust were considered as the virtuous acts of the Doctrine of the Mean(中庸の徳). So he insisted that all people had to practice these four moral duties.In addition, I am examining another Sorai’s assertion that moral practice is easy for us and need not hard effort because it is based on human nature.By arguing these views, I am making the meaning of moral for Sorai clearer in this paper. | |||||
