| 内容記述 | Many people will have experienced to make an oath. What is an oath? Why does a person make an oath? This paper considers these questions. Kai (precepts) are oaths for Buddhist. It seems to be important as one of the three types of learning (Kai, Jo (meditation), and E (mental functioning)) for Buddhist. A person must receive the precepts in order to be Buddhist. However, in Japanese Buddhism, it is often criticized that many monks don't observe Kai. Hakuin, who is a Zen monk in Edo era, observe Kai strictly. He wrote on duality of Kai in his "Kanzanshi Sendai Kibun". In that book, he classified Kai in two, Kai and Kai-tai (essence of precepts or the spiritual power of precept-observance) which exactly like Bussho (the Buddha-nature). This paper examines his thought closely and reveals the process that a person internalizes precepts and deepens one's existence. | |||||
