| 内容記述 | With goldfish as key images Santo Kyoden combined several sources in Ehon Baika Hyoretsu, a yomihon published in 1807. The imagery binds the characters together and serves to sustain the theme of evil spirit or monstrosity throughout the story. Kyoden also added femininity to round out the theme. This article reveals the novelty and originality of Kyoden's use of goldfish as symbols of femininity and monstrosity, a pioneering practice before several instances from modern Japanese literature. | |||||
