| 内容記述 | In ≪In Search of Lost Time≫ Marcel Proust introduces some classical literature. Albertine, the hero's love, seems to be associated with Greek mythology of Alcyon that we studied formerly, and also with Greek mythology of Phaéton. The cited poem of Mallarmé in the novel has the image of Phaéton as an associate to the sky. Proust uses this poem in allusion to Agostinelli, Proust's love, secretary and former chauffeur who is one of the real-life models of Albertine. Phaéton and Agostinelli both had too much confidence, and were killed in an adventurous flying trip. Several years after the death of Agostinelli, the poem was added to the novel in which we see Proust's reproach for the involvement of his secretary in the flying failure rather than his grief. Finally, the word "phaéton" is treated only as a term (a carriage and pair) in the writing, just like Albertine becoming a simple name to the hero. "Phaéton" seems to be a hidden theme. However, we see in the allusive description of "Phaéton" the transition of the author's mental condition: "sorrow", "blame", and "indifference". | |||||
