| 内容記述 | The purpose of this paper is an examination of the concept of 'slum' to explore its problematique as a preparation for a historic social analysis on discourses of 'squatter slums' in the Philippines. First, the paper focuses on an emergence of 'urban slum problems' and regards its historical condition as the development of cities under capitalism. Secondly, it discusses features of cities as large and densely populated villages that need various kinds of powers to control and secure lives of the population inside. On the basis of this logic, considering discussions on Fordist cities, it is pointed out that welfare states secure a part of supplies of materials and services for maintaining the villages through investments in the spheres of reproduction to create obedient subjects as nations: labors: citizens. In this circumstance 'slum' is defined as a residential space which some subsistence requirements are not ensured by governments and markets in the capitalist society. It was recognized as the space for 'others' who were too immature to be modern subjects. Finally, it concludes that this category was c\ onstructed on the assumption that those who live there could be corrected and cured as the 'others' through powers of discipline in the period of Fordism. |
