| 内容記述 | It is a common stereotype that the Japanese do not directly contradict others’ utterances because negative acknowledgment requires a direct consideration of the conversational partner. Studies on negative response expressions usually examine negative response words. However, it has been reported that in cases where an interlocutor’s utterance is directly denied, negative response expressions that do not use negative response words are used more often than those that use them. No studies on negative response expressions, including negative responses that do not use negative response word, have yet been successfully completed. Along these lines, in this paper, I reconsider the definition of a negative response expression and propose a classification of new negative response expressions, paying attention to the following two aspects. The first is to incorporate into the classification the aspect of a negative degree in relation to the preceding sentence. The second is to focus on the linguistic form of the negative response expression. The classification shown in this paper could be used as a framework for analysis to quantitatively analyze natural conversations. | |||||
