内容記述 | Our visual systems continuously face an astonishing number of information, much more than they can cope with. In order to handle this huge amount of information, our visual systems extract the gist information from groups of similar objects instantly, such as the size variance of a packet of berries. This ability is referred to as summary statistical representation. While the summary statistical representation has been well established in various types of features, the relationship among these features remains hidden. Here, I investigate this issue by testing whether the improvements in variance discrimination is transferable across features. Two groups were trained on an orientation or a length variance discrimination task with trial by trial feedback. All observers were pre-tested and post-tested through variance discrimination tasks in both features. Both training groups showed improvement of the trained feature, either orientation or length during the practice session, although length learning was slightly weaker than orientation learning. The improvement, however, did not remain in post-test in either feature, neither did it transfer to another untrained feature. I presume that the disappeared improvement may be due to insufficient training. | |||||
