| 内容記述 | This paper aims to clarify how declamatory vocal melodies connect with the dramatic effect in Verdiʼs Simon Boccanegra （1881） by focusing on the influence of the melodyʼs musical elements on performance. Researchers have argued that the declamatory vocal melodies in this work were performed for dramatic effect. However, it is unclear how the musical elements of declamatory vocal melodies affect performance expression and create this dramatic effect. First, I classified each melody referred as “declamation” to see how it reflects poetry versification and Italian intonation by interval, the difference in duration between notes, and velocity. I then categorized the orchestral parts into seven textures which were frequently used for particular situations. Subsequently, I examined how the combinations of these classifications work in actual scenes. By analyzing two scenes, I found that the interval and duration between notes in declamatory melodies vary for dramatic situations, not always reflecting versification or intonation within. Further, situations or moods are indicated by orchestral arrangements. In conclusion, Verdi expresses, through the musical elements of vocal melodies, not only intonation or versification but also the tone of characters’ speech. Moreover, melodies that lack language intonation have the function that a singerʼs performance makes more voluntarily. |
