| 内容記述 | アメリカのアフロ系文化人類学者であり、作家でもあるゾラ・ニール・ハーストンによる『わが馬に告げよ』等にみられるカリブ表象は、自国の文化的優位性の誇示のために、「他者」として周縁化されている。同じアフロ系としての共感や連帯感を探し求めることなく、ハーストンは、自らの考えを効果的に映し出す媒体としてカリブ表象を利用しているのだ。それに対し、アメリカ黒人にアフロ系の牽引役を期待するアフロ系ジャマイカ人作家のアーナ・ブロッドバーは、『マイアル』のなかで、外側から書き込まれた抑圧的劣等表象を内側から自ら書き換えていく自律性を訴え、さらにエリザベス・ニュネッツは、『傷ついたハイビスカス』において、ハイブリッドな植民地社会に循環する「排除」と「暴力」といったヒステリックなまでのパワーゲームの不毛さと残虐性をムラート女性の「白い身体表象」を通じて指摘している。 | |||||

| 内容記述 | An Afro-American female anthropologist and writer, Zora Neale Hurston, peripheralizes the Caribbean as ‘others’ in her book, Tell My Horse, to emphasize her own culture's superiority. Instead of exploring some racial links between the Afro-American and the Afro-Caribbean, she employs the representations of the Caribbean for expressing her own ideas effectively. On the other hand, an Afro-Jamaican novelist, Erna Brodber, who expects the American blacks to undertake the leadership of worldwide black group, rejects Caribbean inferior representations inscribed by the Western domination, and insists on retelling their culture and history by themselves newly in Myal. Moreover, an Afro-Trinidadian novelist, Elizabeth Nunez, through representations of a female body in Bruised Hibiscus, explains that the tragic cycles of “exclusion” and “violence,” caused by hysterical power-games in the hybrid colonial society, confuse the colonized. | |||||
