| 内容記述 | フォリナー・トーク(foreigner talk)はFerguson(1971)によって,接触場面において母語話者がとるレジスター(register/言語使用領域)のひとつとして特徴づけられたものである。当時は,コミュニケーションの形態という観点からみると,研究の対象はほとんどが相手を目の前にした対面によるものであった。しかし,昨今の科学技術の進歩は対面の枠に収まらない様々のコミュニケーション形態を生み出している。本稿では,空間も時間も共有しない,日本語母語話者と非母語話者の間でなされるメールという媒体を使ったコミュニケーションにおける母語話者の調整行動を取り上げ,これまで定式化されてきた日本語におけるフォリナー・トーク(ロング1992ab,1995)との比較を試みた。その結果,フォリナー・トークの特徴として指摘されていたもののいくつかが実は対面というコミュニケーションの形態によるものであることが分かった。コミュニケーション形態の違いに視点をおいたフォリナー・トーク研究の必要性が示唆された。 | |||||

| 内容記述 | Although 'foreigner talk' was examined and classified by Ferguson (1971), as one of the many registers used by a native speaker, the types of communication which were analyzed were basically limited to 'face to face' communication i.e. talking. However, with the development of technology, the way people communicate has also changed. We have moved beyond Ferguson's original research parameters. In this article, I will examine Japanese foreigner talk as it occurs in email and in 'face to face' communication. In doing this I will examine the differences between these two types of communication. Finally, I will discuss a few of the differences / phenomenon which occur in Foreigner Talk depending on the type of communication used. This discussion, I believe, will lead to the conclusion that we need to develop a research framework which considers a number of different communication types. | |||||
