| 内容記述 | 本研究は、日本語の母音における音象徴を明らかにすることを目的とした。そのために、質問紙を用い、日本語母語話者が「大きい」「小さい」「明るい」「暗い」「広い」「狭い」という概念と日本語の5母音との間にどのような関連性を感じているのか調査、分析し、これらの関係性を調音音声学的観点から考察した。結果として、「大きい」・「明るい」・「広い」という概念は「あ」、「小さい」・「狭い」は「い」、「暗い」については「お」と関連が見られた。 | |||||

| 内容記述 | The purpose of the study is to investigate "sound symbolism" of vowels in Japanese. Sound symbolism is regarded as the opposite concept of arbitrariness and some researchers said that sound worked not only as a physical sound but also had some kind of particular meaning in itself and it evoked images related to the way they sound (Uemura 1964, Uemura 1965, Tamori & Schourup 1999, Makino 1999). In this paper, we used questionnaires then firstly the collected data was analyzed by descriptive statistical analysis and chi-square test as well. The presented concepts are "big," "small," "bright," "dark," "wide" and "narrow." The result was analyzed from the phonetic point of view. As a result, it was found that "big," "bright" and "wide" have something to do with /a/, "small" and "narrow" have something to do with /i/ and "dark" is related to /o/. | |||||
