| 内容記述 | In this paper, I focus on “ Japayuki-san”, migrant female workers who were located in the entertainment industry of Japan. “ Japayuki-san ” was widely used in the mass media in the 1980s,however we avoid using this term and have not mentioned its meaning, because it has been regarded as a disparaging term in the public since the 1990s. I consider discourses around “ Japayuki-san ” in articles of magazines for men and women, and about economy, labor problems and national security from 1985 to 1995. Through this approach, I find that “Japayuki-san” has various images and different meanings in each kind of magazine, because readers who receive information from magazines need their own convenient discourses around “ Japayuki-san ” in order to maintain and intensify their political, social, and cultural positions in the society. Moreover, I analyze how these images and meanings are involved with the process that we recognize “ Japayuki-san ” as a disparaging term. This view shows that migrant female workers, who were called “Japayuki-san”, are others like mirror images which reflect how Japanese society gazes at them.\ | |||||
