内容記述 | This paper examines the hazard rates of returning to the labor market for women who left their jobs due to pregnancy or childbirth and how prior occupation experience of them affects re-employment to the same occupation. Using data from the Japanese Panel Study of Employment Dynamics, the following results are presented. Firstly, while women with more than a four-year college degree return to the labor market early, they are likely to be employed as non-regular workers rather than regular workers. Secondly, healthcare and social welfare professionals and marketing professionals also return to the labor market early. Thirdly, among clerical workers and professional and technical workers, which are white collar jobs, healthcare and social welfare professionals are likely to return to the same occupation. Fourthly, whether married women return to the same occupation or not depends on the number of years they worked in their previous jobs and the number of unemployed years after quitting, although the pattern differs by occupation. Finally, we suggest that it is important to increase opportunities for married women to become regular workers and to boost support towards their re-employment in order to enhance their roles in the labor market. | |||||
