| 内容記述 | This study aims to examine the characteristics of apologizer’s speech function and appearance position by comparing Japanese and Thai native speakers. The result of analyzing role-play conversation data was that there are similarities and differences between these two languages while making apologies. Both Japanese and Thai native speakers tend to use “giving resolutions” and “explaining reasons” at opening and main section in order to recover the relationship with their interlocutors. Nevertheless, Japanese native speakers use “expression of apology” at every appearance position and “show consideration” at main section more frequently than Thai native speakers. From the result, it can be implied that when an unsatisfactory situation occurs, both Japanese and Thai native speakers are actively trying to recover the relationship with their interlocutors. However, Japanese native speakers are likely to show explicit responsibility, while Thai native speakers focus on problem-solving more. | |||||
